A-player

An A-player is a top-tier hire who has done the relevant work before in a comparable context, can prove it, and performs at a consistently high level. The defining trait is demonstrated results in a situation like yours, not a polished résumé or a big-name employer.

Telling an A-player apart from a merely impressive-looking candidate is the core of good evaluation. The signal is proof of having solved the specific problem, surfaced through a test assignment, a portfolio review, and a structured interview, not logos or confidence.

Recruiter Mill’s positioning, hunting true A-players, refers to exactly this bar: people with a track record in a relevant context, hired on evidence rather than impression.
